Sony has rolled out the PlayStation Family App, a brand-new mobile application for controlling parental settings on iOS and Android devices.

According to a PlayStation Blog entry dated September 10, 2025, this app consolidates the parental controls used on PS5 and PS4, which include age restrictions and playtime limitations, and enriches them with fresh, customizable tools.

The application enables parents to get instant alerts when their child is using a PlayStation, giving them the power to approve or reject access to restricted games and requests for additional playtime with ease.

Among its features, the PlayStation Family App allows caregivers to impose daily playtime limits and manage expenditure by setting a monthly cap on PlayStation Store transactions.

Furthermore, the app lets parents adjust filters for content and social interactions, enabling the customization of privacy settings and age-appropriate content controls directly via their smartphones. It includes age presets that apply suggested settings based on a child's age group.

To give comprehensive oversight, users can access daily and weekly summaries of their child's in-game activity and playtime.

The app, available for free in "most markets," requires iOS 14 or above and Android 8 or newer.

"We’re thrilled to offer an easier way for parents to manage their children's gaming from mobile devices," said Cory Gasaway, VP of product management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, on the blog.

"This is just the beginning of our new mobile app – we aim to consistently enhance the PlayStation Family app to improve the user experience over time."
