GTA V is the best-selling game on PlayStation in the United States of all time
Yesterday, on September 9, 2025, marked the 30th anniversary of the release of the PlayStation 1 in the United States. To commemorate this occasion, Circana analyst Mat Piscatella named the Sony console games that have performed best in the American market in terms of revenue and units sold over the years.
GTA V emerged as the undisputed leader, surpassing all other games both in terms of revenue and the number of copies sold.
Rockstar Games’ titles in general occupied four spots in both the revenue top 20 and the top 20 by sales volume. Besides GTA V, titles like GTA: San Andreas, GTA: Vice City, and Red Dead Redemption 2 made it to the lists.
However, games from the Call of Duty series obtained significantly more places in the rankings, occupying half of them. This includes last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 featuring in both lists.
As for Sony’s own studio games, there were five titles: The Last of Us, God of War (2018), and three parts of Marvel’s Spider-Man, including the game about Miles Morales.
Below are the complete lists.
