Haruhiro Tsujimoto, President of Capcom, has suggested that the elevated cost of the PlayStation 5 has impacted the sales performance of Monster Hunter Wilds.

In a conversation with Nikkei Gaming and translated by ResetEra, Tsujimoto recounted the swift rise of the game, which reached eight million sales within three days, marking it as Capcom's quickest-selling game to date.

Still, according to Capcom's latest financial report, the game's sales were described as "soft," with only 477,000 copies sold in the first quarter of 2025, pushing total sales up to 10.6 million.

Tsujimoto pointed to the steep PlayStation 5 cost, along with subscription fees and the game's $70 price, as major deterrents for many buyers.

“The console is priced around ¥80,000 ($538),” he explained. “Adding the software and subscription fees, the total reaches approximately ¥100,000 ($672) at purchase."

“This is a substantial amount, particularly challenging for younger buyers. This challenge isn't unique to Japan, but is a global issue as well.”

The Capcom president mentioned that they are crafting strategies to "increase sales" of Monster Hunter Wilds as the year progresses.

In other parts of the interview, Tsujimoto mentioned the success of the Switch 2, priced at ¥48,980 ($329). “The positive feedback surpassed our expectations,” he stated.

"Despite price differences globally, this highlighted the significant price awareness among average consumers."
