The game Hollow Knight has reached a new high, with more than 71,000 concurrent players on Steam

The popular game Hollow Knight recently recorded over 71,000 concurrent users on Steam, coinciding with the anticipation of its upcoming sequel's launch.
Data from SteamDB reveals that on August 29, 2025, Hollow Knight previously saw a peak of 56,192 players. Following the announcement at Gamescom regarding Silksong’s release date, the game reached a peak of 21,000 players.
Earlier records indicated that Hollow Knight had reached 20,000 simultaneous players back in May 2022. These figures are restricted to the Steam platform, as the game is also available on other platforms such as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox.
Post-announcement, data from Alinea Analytics showed that nearly five million users added the sequel to their Steam wishlist.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen discussed the seven-year development journey of the game, affirming that Silksong never encountered significant delays and attributing the duration to the inherent time required in game development.
Gibson commented, "The entire process was a channel for our creative expression. There was consistent progress, yet as a small team, game creation is time-intensive. There wasn't any major controversy causing delays."
The founders explained that Silksong was initially envisioned as an extension of Hollow Knight but transformed into a standalone title during development.
Pellen remarked, "Working on new concepts, levels, and bosses is very rewarding. We halted for the sake of completing the game, despite the possibility to continue indefinitely."
