Every day, more than 100,000 new buyers appear on Steam — and other figures from Valve's report at Gamescom 2025

Valve's Business Development Manager Erik Peterson spoke at the Devcom developers conference held during Gamescom 2025. He revealed some fresh data about the Steam store.

  • From August 2024 to August 2025, an average of 109 thousand people made purchases on Steam for the first time each day.
  • The fastest-growing markets in Steam from 2020 to 2025 regarding the number of new users are Japan, Brazil, China, Germany, and the USA.
  • The Chinese language continues to hold the title of the most popular in Steam—33.6% of the store's users have simplified Chinese as their primary language, while around 1% chose traditional Chinese.
  • The share of the English language compared to 2024 decreased from 33.4% to 33%, whereas the share of the Russian language grew from 8.2% to 8.4%. Spanish (4.6%) and the Brazilian variant of Portuguese (2.8%) also made it into the top five languages in Steam.
  • More than 500 games in Steam earned over 4 million dollars in 2024. By the end of 2025, the number of games with such annual revenue is expected to grow by approximately 20%.
  • In 2024, the “Deal of the Day” feature in Steam was offered to 2.8 thousand games, with nine out of ten being new releases. It's expected that in 2025, due to the increase in available slots, around 4 thousand games will participate in the promotion.
