Google will require all Android developers to undergo verification, regardless of whether they publish apps on Google Play or not
The Google Corporation has decided to make Android safer. It announced that in the near future, all developers will be required to verify their identity, otherwise their applications will become unavailable for download.
Google noted that many developers using Google Play have already undergone verification. Therefore, the changes will primarily affect those who distribute applications on Android outside of the store.
For verification, individual developers will need to provide Google moderators with their name, address, email, and phone number, as well as an identification document. Companies will need to disclose their DUNS number and share a link to their official website. Following this, both individuals and companies will have to confirm the ownership of the applications.
The new requirements will take effect starting in September 2026 in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. From 2027, they will gradually be implemented in other countries.
