The rating of games on Steam is now calculated based on the language of the reviews
Valve has made changes to the rating system on Steam. Now, along with a unified rating based on all written reviews, separate ratings are also generated for different languages in the store.
The company clarified that the change does not affect all games. It applies only to those titles that have received at least 2,000 reviews in total, with at least 200 reviews in one language.
As Valve explained, the update makes ratings more informative. Steam is now a much more global platform than it was 12 years ago when the review option first appeared. Users from different regions may have varied opinions about specific games, which is not reflected in a single rating.
The updated system is enabled by default for all Steam users. From now on, when a player visits a title's page, they will see the rating based on the language they previously selected as their primary in the profile settings. Users can also view statistics for other languages. If desired, a user can disable the changes and revert to the previous system with a unified rating.
