Tencent alters the Steam page for Light of Motiram in response to a lawsuit from Sony

Tencent has altered the Steam page for Light of Motiram, responding to claims from Sony that the game closely mimics the Horizon series by Guerrilla Games.

As reported by The Game Post, Tencent has discreetly undertaken several revisions to the game’s Steam listing in the past week.

The updates include announcing a Q4 2027 release target and changing the main artwork, which previously featured a character akin to Horizon's Aloy, now replaced by an image showcasing two robotic creatures: a bird and a pig.

In addition, several original screenshots (akin to Horizon) have also been swapped out for new visuals.

The most significant alteration involves the game's description. It initially highlighted elements such as "mechanimals" and "colossal machines":

"In a world overrun by colossal machines, explore the vast open world, build your base of operations, advance technology, train Mechanimals, and take on formidable bosses."

It has since been modified to remove those references, focusing instead on survival and challenge:

"Make smart use of everything around you to stay alive and face formidable bosses, every step requires courage. Only by surviving can you carve out a place for yourself in this unforgiving land."

The game by Polaris Quest was introduced in November the previous year, garnering attention due to its striking parallels to the Horizon series, as observed by fans.

Sony corroborated these observations and initiated a copyright lawsuit against Tencent in July, calling Light of Motiram a “slavish clone” of one of its most prized intellectual properties.

In the lawsuit, Sony highlighted that both gaming enthusiasts and journalists found Light of Motiram to be an evident imitation of Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Forbidden West, and related titles in the Horizon portfolio.
