In July, three new releases on Steam generated revenue exceeding $10 million — GameDiscoverCo
July was a relatively calm month for Steam in terms of new blockbuster hits, according to the founder of GameDiscoverCo, Simon Carless, who compiled the lists of the most successful new releases in July*.
Carless named the Chinese game Wuchang: Fallen Feathers as the top-grossing release in July. The analyst estimated its revenue on Steam at $19.1 million.
According to Carless, besides Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, only two other new releases managed to earn over $10 million on Steam by early August. These are Grounded 2 ($15.6 million) and Killing Floor 3 ($10.6 million). For comparison, six new releases surpassed this mark in June.
In terms of copies sold, the cooperative action game about magical battles, Mage Arena, led the way, where spells need to be spoken into a microphone. Steam users purchased it more than 719 thousand times in July. Sales of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers were 27% lower, with 524.9 thousand copies sold.
Among other notable new releases on Steam in July, Carless highlighted the remaster of Stronghold Crusader, Wildgate, and The King Is Watching.
