Amid an ongoing dispute over censorship of NSFW games, one million individuals have taken advantage of GOG's FreedomToBuy offer

GOG's FreedomToBuy.Games campaign has attracted over a million participants eager to claim free games. The initiative provides 13 games featuring adult content at no cost, challenging recent restrictions imposed by platforms like Steam and itch.io under pressure from payment services.
In a statement released on August 1, GOG emphasized its belief in the accessibility and longevity of games: "We believe that if a game is legal and responsibly made, players should be able to enjoy it today – and decades from now." The platform stressed the importance of maintaining access to games despite discomfort or controversy, warning that once titles are removed, restoring them becomes more complex.
Driven by collaboration with developers and publishers, GOG launched this initiative to spotlight the role of censorship in gaming. It includes unrestricted titles such as Postal 2, Agony, and House Party, available free for a limited 48-hour period to support artistic freedom and the preservation of games.
GOG reported an unprecedented level of engagement with its platform, compelling its team to work tirelessly to ensure system reliability. "The response is so much beyond our expectations that our team needs to work around the clock to maintain the stability of the platform," the company noted in an update.
The platform reinforced their position by stating that the removal of games today significantly complicates efforts to bring them back in the future.
