Google will still have to allow EGS and other competing app stores on Google Play

Google Corporation failed to overturn a court decision in its dispute with Epic Games. Its appeal in the case regarding its monopoly on the Android app market was rejected once again.

A U.S. court confirmed the verdict issued back in December 2023. Among other things, it required Google to open Google Play to competitors, allowing them to distribute their app stores on the platform.

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney thanked the court. He wrote on X that the mobile version of the Epic Games Store can now appear on Google Play, though he did not specify a timeline.

Google representatives stated to the media that the court’s ruling harms user security and the development of the Android ecosystem. The corporation intends to file a new appeal.
