Valve has improved the trailer player in Steam

The Steam team continues to update its digital store. This time, they announced a major overhaul of the trailer player on game pages, enhancing its reliability and redesigning its interface.

For instance, the player is now capable of adapting to screens of various devices such as PCs, Steam Decks, smartphones, and more. It has also gained support for videos with any aspect ratio. The updated player can automatically scale and center videos depending on the window size.

Moreover, Valve has generally improved the way trailers are presented. According to the company, the number of lags when rewinding videos should be reduced, and transitions to fullscreen mode are now smoother. In addition, the player has learned to display video frames when hovering the cursor over the timeline.

Another new feature is support for 360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p resolutions.

Valve has already re-encoded all the trailers published on Steam for the updated player. There are about 400,000 of them.
