The PlayStation 5 edition of Forza Horizon 5 has achieved sales of over three million units, establishing it as the leading new PS5 title of 2025. Originally released in 2021 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, the game made its PS5 debut on April 29, 2025. This release marked a significant milestone as it was the first instance of a mainline Forza title appearing on a PlayStation system in the franchise's two-decade-long history.

Data from The Alinea Insight newsletter shows that the PS5 version has surpassed three million copies sold within less than three months of its launch, monitored between January 1, 2025, and July 21, 2025. Impressively, within the first 25 days post-release, the game sold two million units. By comparison, the 2024 PlayStation platformer Astro Bot reached that milestone in about three months, whereas Death Stranding 2 by Kojima Productions sold one million copies within 25 days of its June release.

A recent promotional discount of 25% especially contributed to Forza Horizon 5 exceeding the three million sales threshold, thereby outpacing Monster Hunter Wilds, which has moved 2.9 million copies on PS5 during the same timeframe, making it the top-selling PS5 game of the year so far.

The release of Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 reflects a shift in Xbox's approach towards more inclusive multiplatform game availability. Earlier this year, Microsoft's head, Phil Spencer, commented, "There's no reason to put a ring fence around any game," highlighting a new strategy to distribute Xbox first-party games on platforms such as Switch and PlayStation. Despite the debate stemming from this new direction, it has allowed an Xbox first-party title to become the bestselling game on PS5 for the year.
