Founders of Romero Games, John and Brenda Romero, have denied rumors about the studio's closure. They stated that while the team is indeed going through tough times, they are continuing their work.

Recall that last week, the Romeros revealed that a publisher (suspected to be Microsoft) had canceled funding for their unannounced shooter on Unreal Engine 5. Following this, reports from former Romero Games employees appeared online stating that the studio had shut down the game and laid off the entire staff.
The developers have now confirmed that layoffs at Romero Games have indeed occurred, but these do not signify a complete cessation of activities.
Additionally, the canceled game might be saved. According to the founders of Romero Games, several publishers interested in the project have already reached out to them, and the studio is now considering their offers.
