Financial Times: Apple may ease its App Store policy in the EU to avoid a hefty fine
Apple Corporation hopes to avoid a new fine in the European Union due to anti-competitive App Store policies, according to Financial Times sources. To achieve this, the company is prepared to make some concessions in its store policy.
As reported by the Financial Times, Apple is currently in negotiations with the European Commission. The exact changes being discussed are not known, but it is speculated that they involve easing the rules related to app placement on third-party platforms.
The publication’s sources noted that the talks included discussion of the Core Technology Fee, charged for every app download on iOS outside the App Store. However, whether Apple will make any changes to this fee remains unclear.
Previously, the European Commission ruled that the App Store policies violated the regional digital markets law. As a result, in April, Apple was fined 500 million euros. On June 26, the corporation could face a similar fine if it does not propose significant changes and fails to secure an extension for their implementation.
