Fortnite has returned to the American App Store after nearly five years of absence

Epic Games managed to bring Fortnite back to the App Store in the U.S. The game became available again in the American version of the store on the night of May 21st—1,741 days after Apple removed it due to rule violations.

Numerous legal proceedings were necessary to bring the game back. The latest verdict by the U.S. court was issued three weeks ago: it not only permitted Epic Games to release Fortnite in the App Store but also imposed several restrictions on Apple. For instance, it prohibited Apple from charging a commission for purchases made outside its store within the U.S.

It was anticipated that Fortnite would appear in the U.S. App Store by May 11th, but Apple hindered meeting the deadline. The corporation refused to consider Epic Games' application until a decision was made on its appeal.

The presiding judge, Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, upon reviewing the situation, proposed two scenarios to Apple: either the corporation negotiates with Epic Games regarding the release of Fortnite in the U.S. App Store, or it soon returns to court to provide explanations. It appears Apple chose the first option.

Currently, Fortnite is available on iOS in only two regions: in the U.S. through the App Store and in the European Union through AltStore and the mobile Epic Games Store.
