Lost in Cult introduces a new label for publishing physical games

The company Lost in Cult has introduced a new label focused on publishing physical video games.
The firm, known for its expertise in book publishing and design, plans to offer both widely available and collectable ('Editions') versions of physical games, with an emphasis on game preservation.
The label is debuting with three games intended for the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch: "Thank Goodness You’re Here" (PS5/Switch), "Immortality" (PS5), and "The Excavation of Hob's Barrow" (Switch).
These games will be available in physical form, with the full game included on the disc or cartridge, negating the need for online downloads or connectivity.
The retail versions will be stocked both online and in stores, with distribution managed by PM Studio.
Exclusive 'Editions' will be sold directly from Lost in Cult's website, with limited runs between 1,000 and 1,500 copies per game.
These special Editions include newly commissioned slipcase art, variant retail covers, a poster, a collector's checklist, and a booklet featuring interviews with developers and essays, curated by editor Chris Schilling of Lost in Cult.

Ryan Brown, who leads the publishing efforts at Lost in Cult, stated, "We [have] set out to create a new standard for physical games, emphasizing both the game and the creative process behind it."
Brown also highlighted that the retail options provide broad access to high-quality physical games, allowing everyone to enjoy them for years regardless of internet connectivity.
Collaboration with preservation group DoesItPlay? is also in effect; this community ensures that physical releases remain fully operational offline by evaluating games and devices.
Clemens Istel, the owner of DoesItPlay?, commented, "Our partnership with Lost in Cult aligns with our commitment to maintain accessible high-quality physical game releases." They have tested more than 2,600 titles, ensuring a matched vision in preserving games as a form of art.
