One of Steam's partners might have become a victim of a hacking attack, reports Underdark AI, a company specializing in cybersecurity. They noticed that a database containing information about more than 89 million user accounts of the store is being offered for sale online.

Steam may have experienced a data leak affecting 89 million users

According to Underdark AI, primarily, the leaked data includes SMS messages sent to gamers during two-factor authentication, along with other similar information. The hacker is asking for $5,000 for this data.

It is suspected that the service Twilio, which provides two-factor authentication and SMS services, might have been compromised. However, representatives from Twilio stated to the media that they conducted an investigation and found no issues. Meanwhile, representatives from Valve reported that the company does not use Twilio at all.
