Steam will indicate the compatibility of games with SteamOS devices not made by Valve
Currently, the Steam Deck is the only official portable PC running on SteamOS, but this is about to change. By the end of May, Lenovo plans to release the Legion Go S version, which will also operate on this operating system. Ahead of its release, Valve announced that in the coming weeks, Steam will begin indicating on game pages whether they are compatible with third-party devices on SteamOS or not.
After a special review, games in the Steam catalog will fall into one of two categories:
- “Supported” — the game along with all its related software works on SteamOS;
- “Not Supported” — the game along with all its related software does not work on SteamOS.
Valve emphasized that, as with the Steam Deck, it will conduct the compatibility verification itself. Developers do not need to take any action. If a game has previously passed the Steam Deck verification successfully, it will automatically be categorized as “Supported” for SteamOS. Valve will review other titles in order of priority, which depends on the audience's interest in the game.
According to Valve's calculations, at launch, the compatibility tag for third-party devices on SteamOS will be assigned to more than 18,000 games.
