Boyfriend Maker removed from App Store

Another sex scandal in the mobile app market. Virtual companions from the children’s game Boyfriend Maker turned out to be very frank guys, ready to talk to a real girl on any forbidden topic. For this application, they removed it from the shelves of the digital store.

Not so long ago, the Japanese studio 36 You developed a Boyfriend Maker game that allows a sensitive and vulnerable female being (4 years and older) to create the perfect young man, go on a date with him, go shopping, have a snack together and cook something digital. Moreover, you can also talk to him. On any topic of interest. Actually, because of this, a real sexual scandal broke out.

In response to certain questions, the digital young man answered in a completely unacceptable way for the younger generation. In his remarks, there could be a mate, comments of a sexual nature. This attracted the attention of the Western press, which was frankly amused by such a conceptual project of the developers.

As a result, the app was removed from the App Store. However, it is still not entirely clear who did it: Apple or the developers themselves. As for the sexual cues, they ended up in the app by accident. It turns out that instead of creating their own “conversational” engine, the developers used a ready-made SimSimi API in Boyfriend Maker, which gave the answers that he had previously received from other users. It is clear that in this case it would hardly be possible to avoid a mate or forbidden topics in the chat.

The original SimSimi app can still be found on the App Store, but it has a different age rating: 17+. In addition, obscenities can be blocked in it.
