Sony PlayStation has launched a new studio called teamLFG, which will focus on developing "an ambitious incubation project"
A new gaming studio named teamLFG has been launched by Sony PlayStation.
Although rooted in Bungie, Hermen Hulst, Studio Business Group CEO, described teamLFG as an initiative bringing together "developers from across the industry to materialize an ambitious incubation project." He expressed enthusiasm in "officially introducing a new studio into the PlayStation Studios family."
Based in Bellevue, Washington, teamLFG features employees working on-site as well as remotely across the US and Canada. The team's expertise combines AAA game development experience on titles like Destiny, Fortnite, and Roblox, alongside innovative creative talents.
The name 'LFG' signifies 'Looking For Group,' as stated on the PlayStation Blog. TeamLFG aims to foster games that cultivate friendship, community, and belonging among players.
Dedicated to crafting immersive multiplayer worlds, the team is focused on action games that engage players extensively by inviting them into the development phase through early access playtests. Emphasizing adaptability, they underscore the importance of reacting to player feedback continuously, from pre-launch to long-term live service, ensuring community interaction for years.
The studio's debut project is a team-based action game influenced by genres such as fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, and life simulations, set in an entertaining, novel, mythic, science-fantasy universe. More details are promised soon.
In 2022, Sony declared plans to introduce 12 live service games, yet has since revised this strategy, including canceling two unnamed live service projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games.
Following the abrupt removal of its live service hero shooter Concord from sale shortly after its August launch, Sony deactivated the servers on September 6. Subsequently, in October, Sony closed Firewalk Studios, which developed Concord, as well as Neon Koi, reflecting on its "games portfolio and project statuses."
