The EU authorities have fined Apple 500 million euros due to its App Store policies

The European Commission has indeed recognized Apple as a violator of the Digital Markets Act (DMA) and has fined the corporation. Rumors about the agency's plans to do this emerged as early as last summer.

Apple fined 500 million euros in the European Union

In its official statement, the European Commission stated that Apple restricts app developers for the App Store. Due to the store's policies, they cannot "fully" inform users about the possibility of making purchases on third-party platforms where Apple fees are not charged.

The fine for Apple for violating the DMA amounted to 500 million euros. In addition to paying it, the European Commission has demanded that the corporation revise its App Store policies. It has 60 days to comply — if Apple fails to meet the deadline, it will face new regular fines.

Apple criticized the European Commission's decision, calling it unfair and forcing the company to share its technology for free. Furthermore, in Apple's opinion, the EU authorities' requirement harms user security. The corporation does not intend to comply and plans to go to court.
