A free giveaway helped Metro 2033 Redux set a new online record on Steam

On the evening of April 14th, 4A Games studio and publisher Deep Silver launched a free distribution of Metro 2033 Redux on Steam, GOG, and Xbox in honor of the series' 15th anniversary. As a result, the shooter's online play reached a new record, at least on Steam.

According to SteamDB, yesterday, the number of concurrent players in the Steam version of Metro 2033 Redux rose to 13,592 people. For comparison, the previous record was almost three times lower—5,139 people. Metro 2033 Redux set this record seven years ago in April 2018.

The distribution of Metro 2033 Redux will last until the evening of April 16th. It's possible that before it ends, the game might break its own online record on Steam again.

It is unknown how things stand with the shooter's online presence on GOG and Xbox.

Remember, Metro 2033 Redux is a remaster of the original Metro 2033, which was released in August 2014. Besides PC and Xbox, the title is available on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
