Revenue growth from new games and a record number of themed sales — the results of 2024 on Steam

Valve has published Steam's statistics for 2024. We've selected a few figures.

  • In 2024, Steam set a record for the number of buyers of new games. However, Valve didn't specify how many there were.
  • Valve mentioned that in 2024, the total gross revenue from new games in their first month after release on Steam grew almost tenfold compared to 2014.
  • Over 500 new releases earned more than $250,000 in their first month. The number of games reaching this revenue was 27% higher than in 2023.

They also spent another $23 million on in-game purchases. Valve also calculated that these gamers spent a total of 141 million hours on other games.
  • In 2024, around 25% of the top new releases of the month in Steam's sales charts were developed by teams releasing a game on the Valve platform for the first time.
  • In 2024, a record number of thematic sales were held on Steam. These included festivals dedicated to various genres and mechanics, such as festivals for turn-based RPGs, rhythm games, and tower defense games.
  • In 2024, there were over 900 sale pages and other events organized by third parties, i.e., not by Valve. In 2019, there were only six.
  • Revenue from Steam's seasonal sales grew by 10% compared to 2023.
