The Amazon Appstore is set to shut down on Android by August 2025

Amazon revealed its plan to stop offering the Android Appstore as of August 20, 2025.

According to a report by TechCrunch, the decision stems from Amazon's desire to concentrate on enhancing the Appstore experience on its proprietary devices, noting, "that's where the majority of our customers currently engage with it."

The Appstore will continue to be supported on Amazon's Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices.

On February 20, developers received a notification indicating that they could submit new apps aimed at Android devices from that date. However, updates for these apps are only allowed until the end date.

In Japan, users "will no longer be able to make in-app purchases on the Amazon Appstore for Android devices," although the service will remain operational in other regions until August 20.

Furthermore, as outlined on the Appstore's support page, Amazon Coins, the Appstore's virtual currency, will also be retired on August 20. Customers will receive refunds for any unused coins post-closure.
