Sales of the PlayStation 2 have exceeded 160 million units globally

The PlayStation 2 has achieved sales of 160 million units globally, continuing its reign as the best-selling console ever.

Sony has recently updated the PlayStation history page to mark this achievement.

Originally launched in March 2000, the console previously hit a major milestone in 2011, reaching 150 million units sold, as noted by reports from that time.

The PlayStation 4, Sony's second best-selling console, reached 117 million units by May 2023, according to Sony's last update.

Financial reports indicate that 65 million PlayStation 5 consoles have been sold since its launch in November 2020, as reported in Sony's financial results.

Meanwhile, Nintendo's recent financial report shows the Nintendo Switch has sold 146 million units since its debut in 2017, but the Nintendo DS still leads with 154 million units sold.
