Valve has decided against releasing hardware on a regular yearly schedule, reasoning that such a practice is "not really fair to customers."

Speaking with Reviews.org (referenced by Eurogamer), Valve's designers Lawrence Yang and Yazan Aldehayyat discussed the future of the Steam Deck. They stated that the company will refrain from implementing "yearly cadence" upgrades and will instead aim for substantial performance improvements for future releases.

"We are not pursuing annual upgrades," remarked Yang. He emphasized that introducing slight enhancements each year would not benefit their customers.

Yang further noted, "Significant advancements in computing power, without impacting battery life, are what we target for the next generation." He mentioned their enthusiasm and ongoing work towards this goal.

Valve reiterated its dedication to the Steam Deck by planning for advancements that would mark a "generational increase."

Recently, Valve brought out an OLED version of the portable gaming device.
