PlayStation has stated that the appearance of full-screen advertisements on the PS5 dashboard was due to a "technical error"

According to Sony, the recent appearance of full-screen advertisements on PS5 dashboards was unintentional and has been rectified.

After the latest system update, users noted that Game Hubs were unexpectedly filled with large game advertisements rather than traditional background artwork.

For instance, pointing at Horizon Zero Dawn redirected users to an advertisement for Lego Horizon Adventures. At the time, these ads seemed unremovable unless the internet connection was terminated.

Sony has now announced on the X/Twitter account AskPlayStation, that the issue stemmed from a "tech error."

The company clarified, "A tech error with the Official News feature on the PS5 console has since been resolved."

They reiterated, "There have been no changes to the way game news is displayed on PS5."
