In 2022, Intel was passed over by Sony for the PlayStation 6 chip contract, which was awarded to Advanced Micro Devices, potentially costing Intel up to $30 billion in revenue.

According to a Reuters report, this opportunity was missed due to unresolved negotiations between Intel and Sony regarding the financial share Intel would receive per chip.

Insiders indicated that Intel's internal forecasts estimated Sony’s business would have contributed nearly $30 billion to their revenues if the partnership had been established.

The deal could have significantly enhanced Intel's foundry division, which officially started operations earlier in the year, as per the Reuters analysis.

An Intel representative stated: "We strongly disagree with the characterization but are not going to comment about any current or potential customer conversations. We have a very healthy customer pipeline across both our product and foundry business, and we are squarely focused on innovating to meet their needs."

Since 2014, AMD has been involved with Sony, providing customized chips for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 models.
