The PlayStation 5 Pro is set to be released on November 7 with a price tag of $699.99

Sony has officially unveiled the PlayStation 5 Pro, set to be released in November.

The announcement was made by Mark Cerny, the lead architect, who highlighted significant enhancements in the console's performance over the original PS5.

Key improvements include an expanded graphics processing unit, sophisticated ray tracing methods, and AI-powered upscaling, all aimed at providing intricate graphics at a consistent 60 frames per second.

The PS5 Pro is initially available as a digital-only version, but a separate disc drive can be purchased for $79.99 and attached by the user.

The console will hit the market on November 7, priced at $699.99 in the US, £699.99 in the UK, €799.99 in Europe, and ¥119,980 in Japan.

Additional features include Wi-Fi 7, for regions that support it, and compatibility with VRR and 8K resolutions, alongside a 2TB SSD.

Most PlayStation exclusives on the current PS5 offer a choice between fidelity mode, which prioritizes detail at 30fps, or performance mode, which offers 60fps with reduced detail. Cerny noted that the majority of gamers favor the performance mode, making it a priority for Sony to minimize this compromise.

Regarding the new features, Cerny stated that the upgraded GPU can handle graphics processing up to 45% faster, and the ray tracing enhancements can simulate light interactions at up to three times the speed of its predecessor.

The console also features specialized hardware for machine learning that powers the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling. This system evaluates each game image on a pixel-by-pixel basis to significantly enhance detail and resolution.

Game developers are integrating PS5 Pro compatibility into both upcoming and existing games, with titles such as Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, The Last of Us: Part 2, Horizon Forbidden West, and Gran Turismo 7 showcased with optimizations for the Pro.

Additional third-party titles confirmed to benefit from these enhancements include Assassin's Creed: Shadows, Alan Wake 2, Dragon's Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Hogwarts Legacy, The Crew Motorfest, and The First Descendant.

Details about the PS5 Pro were initially leaked in March, with industry commentator Rob Fahey predicting that this may present a tougher market challenge for Sony compared to the PS4 Pro.
