Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launched with 134,000 concurrent players on Steam

On September 5th, Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment granted early access to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 for owners of the extended editions. The game quickly became one of the most popular new releases of 2024 on Steam.

According to SteamDB, the peak concurrent players of the Steam version of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 reached 134,302. This achievement placed the title 11th* in the top online games released on Valve's platform in 2024, situated between Enshrouded (160,405 players) and Granblue Fantasy: Relink (114,054 players).

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 also became the second most popular Warhammer universe game on Steam. The only title with more concurrent users was Total War: WARHAMMER III, with 166,754 players.

Players generally had a favorable impression of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. At the time of writing, it holds a "mostly positive" rating on Steam, with 75% of reviews being positive. Negative feedback often cited the lack of support for widescreen monitors, technical issues (such as crashes and a black screen on startup), and the mandatory Epic Online Services.

The specialized press also responded predominantly well to Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. On Metacritic, it received scores of 82-83 out of 100, depending on the platform. The game was praised as a solid sequel to the first installment, particularly for its graphics and spectacular battles.

The full release of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is set for September 9th on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.

* We did not include Banana (with peak online exceeding 917,000 users) as the creators themselves admitted that much of Banana's audience comprises bots, not real players. We also excluded games like Deadlock, which is still in the testing phase, and V Rising, which reached its online peak during early access.
