A new service has emerged for tracking tags and analyzing trends on Steam

MY.GAMES product analyst Lev Kobelev and senior game designer at Sad Cat Studios Alexander Barabanov introduced SteamTrender—an analytics service that allows users to study popularity, revenue, and other metrics of tags on Steam.

SteamTrender shows:

  • the top-100 popular games on Steam overall that have gained between 1,000 to 10,000 reviews in the last two months;
  • the most popular games with specific tags. You can select up to ten tags at a time, and exclude the same number from the analysis. The SteamTrender website displays the top-100 games, but the service allows you to download a .csv file with the top-1,000 games;
  • the number of games released on Steam with selected tags, their revenue, median number of reviews, and median number of game owners;
  • trends in selected tags over a five-year period preceding the chosen year for analysis.

As explained by the creators of SteamTrender, the service pulls data directly from Steam at the beginning of each month but excludes demos, prologues, and free-to-play projects from the statistics. It estimates game revenue using the Boxleiter method.

SteamTrender is free to use and currently in beta testing.
