On its launch day, Black Myth: Wukong set a new record for single-player games on Steam, reaching 2 million concurrent users
Today marks the release of Black Myth: Wukong, and it has quickly broken records on Steam. At present, the game hosts 2.13 million simultaneous players, securing its place as the most successful single-player game ever by concurrent users.
This impressive figure is more than twice the record set by Cyberpunk 2077, which attracted one million concurrent players just two hours post-launch in 2020. Furthermore, it surpasses the 2024 hit, Palworld, which reached a high of 2.1 million concurrent gamers, according to VG247.
Despite these notable achievements, PUBG remains the all-time record holder, reaching 3.3 million concurrent players at its peak.
Amidst widespread enthusiasm on Steam, Black Myth: Wukong's debut has encountered some challenges. Game Science, the developer, was recently asked to address concerns about a document reportedly given to influencers. This document allegedly instructed them to avoid alluding to COVID-19, "politics," or "feminist propaganda" in their discussions of the game. The studio has not yet responded to these concerns.
