Now developers from Russia have to give Steam an additional 30% of revenue from American sales

On August 16, 2024, Valve began taking an additional 30% deduction from sales in Steam for tax residents of Russia in the United States. This is in addition to the standard store commission, which is also 30%.

In an email to developers, Valve explained its decision due to tax changes. The company reminded that in 2023, Russia suspended certain provisions of double taxation agreements with 38 countries, including the United States. A year later, in June 2024, the U.S. authorities also announced the suspension of several provisions of the tax agreement with Russia—this decision went into effect on August 16, 2024. Valve is obliged to comply with government decrees, so it increased the deductions for teams registered in Russia.

Important: Steam has started withholding an additional 30% of income only from sales in the U.S. In other regions, everything remains unchanged.

No reports have been made about increased deductions for Russian developers in the Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store, or other gaming platforms.
