Co-op hell-escaping platformer Chained Together peaks at over 85k CCU, 10th biggest launch on Steam this year
Chained Together is another surprise hit from indie developers this year. The game has already hooked a lot of players on Steam thanks to its original concept.
Launched on June 19, Chained Together is a climbing platformer where four characters, linked to each other by a physics-based chain, must escape hell by overcoming various obstacles in different stages. It can be played either solo or in co-op, which, along with its mechanics, has viral potential.
Shortly after its release, the game peaked at over 10k concurrent users. The player count continued to grow over the weekend and reached a new high of 85,638 CCU on June 24.
This makes Chained Together the 11th biggest launch of 2024 on Steam in terms of peak concurrent players. It is currently above titles such as Ghost of Tsushima (77.1k CCU), Gray Zone Warfare (72.5k CCU), and Dark and Darker (57.1k CCU).
The full top 10 can be seen below:
Note: We didn’t include Banana, which peaked at over 917k concurrent users, because a) it is more of an app for speculations rather than a game (people keep it launched for hours to get tradable cards) and b) it is unclear how many of those are bots. There are also no games that reached their peak prior to 2024 (mostly Early Access graduates like Sons of the Forest and V Rising).
- Palworld — 2.1 million CCU
- Helldivers 2 — 458.7k CCU
- Last Epoch — 264.7k CCU
- Dragon’s Dogma 2 — 228.5 CCU
- Content Warning — 204.4k CCU
- Manor Lords — 173.1k CCU
- Enshrouded — 160.4k CCU
- Granblue Fantasy: Relink — 114k CCU
- Hades II — 103.5k CCU
- Chained Together — 85.6k CCU
Chained Together is a debut game by indie dev Anegar Games, but there is not much known about the team. The title currently has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, with 90% of the 3,645 reviews being positive.
Players in general praised the game’s cooperation, describing many emotions — ranging from laugh to anger — they felt during the process. This proves that Anegar’s concept worked, not to mention that Chained Together is also one of those titles whose gameplay is perfect for streamers and viral clips.
