Chernobyl Liquidators has launched much worse than its publisher expected

On June 6th, the Polish studio Live Motion Games and publisher Frozen Way released the simulator Chornobyl Liquidators on Steam, which focuses on the cleanup efforts following the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. According to Frozen Way CEO Mateusz Jeleń, the game has not lived up to the expectations.

Jeleń wrote on social media that Chornobyl Liquidators sold 6,000 copies within three days, generating a gross revenue of $95,000. The main markets were Germany, the USA, Poland, Russia, and the UK.

Jeleń acknowledged that the game was released in a suboptimal technical state. The developers of Chornobyl Liquidators consistently received reports from testers highlighting various issues, but they lacked the time and resources to fully resolve them. Nevertheless, Frozen Way decided not to delay the release because rescheduling would have been more costly than issuing patches.

At the time this article was written, Chornobyl Liquidators had 45% positive reviews on Steam. The game's peak online user count was 504.
