Gearbox Publishing San Francisco renamed to Arc Games

At the end of March, Embracer Group announced the imminent sale of Gearbox Entertainment to Take-Two Interactive for $460 million. However, she decided to keep a number of assets, among which was a part of Gearbox Publishing — Gearbox Publishing San Francisco. Now this division will be called Arc Games.

Remnant 2

Arc Games said that nothing has changed except for the brand.

"We are the same team of avid gamers who gave you many of your favorite franchises, including the Remnant series, Have a Nice Death, Star Trek Online and Neverwinter," Arc Games said in a statement.

This is not the first renaming in the history of Arc Games.

At the end of 2021, Embracer Group bought the American "daughter" of the Chinese media company Perfect World called Perfect World Entertainment (PWE) and incorporated it into Gearbox Entertainment. Perfect World Entertainment itself included the publishing division of PWE Publishing and the Cryptic studio. As a result of the deal, PWE Publishing was renamed Gearbox Publishing San Francisco.

After the announcement of the sale of Gearbox Entertainment to Take-Two Interactive, Gearbox Publishing San Francisco had to change its name again to avoid confusion. Therefore, it will now exist as Arc Games.

It is noteworthy that the fate of the rest of Gearbox Publishing, which no longer includes Arc Games, is reliably unknown. Shortly after the announcement of the deal with Take-Two Interactive, Nathaniel Wattenmaker, director of brand management at Gearbox Publishing, wrote on LinkedIn that Gearbox Entertainment was closing the publishing division. However, none of the companies has publicly announced this.
