Valve does not intend to ban games with generated assets on Steam. But there is a nuance

Recently it became known that Valve refuses to publish games on Steam, assets in which are created with the help of artificial intelligence. Several developers have told about this problem. Valve has now publicly commented on the situation.

In a statement to the media, the company said it was exploring different ways to use AI in game development. It does not plan to prohibit developers from using AI solutions, but it will not do without restrictions at all. The authors of the games will have to confirm the rights to use neural networks to create art, music and other assets.

“We know that AI is constantly evolving, and our goal is not to hinder its use. On the contrary, we are working on how to reflect AI in the Steam review policy. The game review process is a reflection of current copyright law, not our attitude [to AI]. As the laws change, the verification process will also change,” a Valve representative said.
