Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and other devs removed from credits in new GOG versions

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and SEGA recently released a collection of seven games in the Yakuza franchise on GOG. However, the name of the creator of the series, along with some other developers, has been erased from the credits.

Toshihiro Nagoshi is missing from Yakuza credits in the new GOG versions – along with many other devs

This was spotted by Redditor Timo653, who shared some screenshots from Yakuza credits over the weekend.

“Despite using a larger font and more spacing, the GOG credits manage to be shorter than the Steam version ones, because of all the removed names,” the user wrote. “A bunch of names are missing from almost every section of the credits.”

The changes affected all seven titles in the bundle. It appears that former Ryu Ga Gotoku general director Toshihiro Nagoshi is missing from the credits, along with former Yakuza producer Daisuke Sato. On top of that, there is no mention of Lab42 and QLOC, two studios that worked on PC versions of these games.

Nagoshi left Sega in 2021 to join NetEase, where he started Nagoshi Studio. He was joined by Sato, as well as some other former Yakuza developers. So perhaps many of the employees removed from the credits are former Ryu Ga Gotoku staff members who joined Nagoshi’s new venture.

Toshihiro Nagoshi has worked at Sega for more than 30 years, with his portfolio including titles such as Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, Shenmue, and Valkyria Chronicles. However, he is best known as the creator of the Yakuza series.

Neither Sega nor Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have commented on the updated credits yet.

Yakuza Complete Series was released on GOG last week. The bundle includes seven titles, from Yakuza 0 to Yakuza 6: The Song of Life. Like any other product on CD Projekt’s store, all games are DRM-free. On top of that, the collection is currently selling at a 70% discount.
