Two-thirds of indie games on Steam earn less than $10 thousand
Such data was shared by game marketing expert Chris Zukowski. He analyzed the revenue of paid indie games released on Steam in 2019.
According to Zhukovsky’s estimates, only 4% of these indie games earned $1 million or more by November 2022.
▪️91.5% of indie games earned less than $250 thousand. As the expert pointed out, $250 thousand is an important bar. From about this level of income, Steam begins to curate games and advertise them on the main page itself.
68% of indie games also earned less than $10 thousand.
The income of the average indie game on Steam from the release in 2019 to the present day is only $1,136.
