The former head of Xbox said that the company encouraged console wars

Peter Moore, who led Microsoft‘s gaming division until 2007, shared his memories in the Front Office Sports podcast. He said that at the time of the launch of the Xbox 360, the company saw console wars as an opportunity to challenge Sony.

According to Moore, the gaming industry would be much “poorer” without such competition. Besides, Xbox probably wouldn’t exist now if Microsoft hadn’t decided to change the strategy after the “red rings of death”. Then the company had to spend $1.15 billion on free repair of problematic consoles.
