The number of Steam Deck users may exceed 1 million by the beginning of next year

Such conclusions were reached by gaming expert Simon Carless (Simon Carless). He analyzed the available data on Steam Deck shipments and told whether indie developers should adapt their games for a portable PC from Valve.

Carless took as a basis the assessment of the Ars Technica portal. Taking into account Steam data on the users’ equipment and the platform’s MAU, at the end of May, the company could deliver about 77 thousand devices.

By the beginning of July, the share of owners of a custom Steam Deck APU among Linux users on Steam reached 7.57%. Thus, now players may already have over 100 thousand consoles from Valve on their hands.

Considering the statements of the company itself about doubling the supply, Valve can now deliver about 20 thousand Steam Decks weekly. If there are no supply problems, by the beginning of next year, the number of active devices may exceed the 1 million mark.

At the same time, Carless notes that most users are still using the Steam Deck to launch their existing games. This is what distinguishes the device from other consoles. Therefore, small developers should focus on sales among ordinary PC players before adapting their new titles for Steam Deck.
