Steam has stopped sending payments to Russia and Belarus. This restriction also affected Ukrainian teams
Today, on March 18, developers and authors of content for the Steam workshop began to receive notifications from Valve stating that “due to current events, it is impossible to send bank payments to Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.”
“Until the banking information is corrected, Valve will not be able to transfer funds for you,” the message says. – “Please correct your banking information as soon as possible.”
The developer was one of the first to write about it on social networks Fearmonium Slava Gris
The company has not made any public statements regarding this decision.
The extension of the restriction to Ukrainian developers caused indignation among them. On their social pages, they demand explanations from Valve.
“I have no idea how they can’t send payments there if the entire banking infrastructure is working fine here, but this will definitely affect hundreds of talented people,” said Andrey Yachenko, senior product manager at StarLadder.
Previously, Valve suspended all payment methods in Russia, except for the Steam wallet and PayPal (also unavailable in Russia recently). Also, most game studios have started to remove their products from stores in Russia and/or Belarus. Similar blockages affected citizens of Ukraine for the first time.
