Apptica: 12.4 thousand games have been released in the App Store this winter. Most of them are puzzles and action games

Apptica analytical service has prepared a report on the applications that appeared in the App Store this winter. At the same time, experts shared the forecast for spring. We tell them what they found out.

  • Back at the end of last fall, Apptica looked at applications that had a pre-order for the winter (December 2021 – February 2022). The vast majority of them were games — 81.1%.

  • Among the games being prepared for the winter release, simulators (28.3%), RPG (24.1%) and puzzles (10.2%) were the most.

  • In fact, the share of games relative to all winter releases on iOS turned out to be less. By the end of February, 12.4 thousand games appeared in the App Store — only 11.3% of the applications released over the winter. It is important to understand here that non-game developers rarely open pre-orders for their applications, which explains why there is such a big difference between the forecast and the actual figures.
  • However, the share of games turned out to be still more than that of other categories.

  • As for the genres of games released in winter, the leaders were puzzles (17.1% or 2218 games), action games (17.1%) and simulators (12.7%).

  • Separately, analysts looked at the tags that were most often used in the description of iOS applications. The most popular were “hyper casual game” (24.1%), “events” (17.4%) and “communication” (10.5%).

  • At the end of the report, Apptica told how things are going with applications that are being prepared for release on iOS in the spring. Games are leading among pre-orders (82.4%). Moreover, most of the pre-orders are newly opened for simulators (26.5%), RPG (26.5%) and puzzles (10.2%).
