Record online, Ready or Not leadership in the sales chart and the growth of Elden Ring vishlist — how was the first week of the year on Steam

The year 2022 started intensively for Steam. During the first full week, the platform updated the record for peak online and changed the leader in the list of the most “desired” games. But there were almost no changes in the bestseller chart — Ready or Not topped it for the third time in a row.

Peak Online Steam

According to SteamDB, on Sunday, January 9, Steam managed to gather more than 28 million users on its platform at the same time for the first time. Valve’s peak online store reached a record high of 28,230,853 people.

Moreover, Steam set the previous record just a week ago — on Sunday, January 2. Then there were 27,942,458 people on the platform at the same time.

As analyst Daniel Ahmad noted, there is nothing surprising in the current update of the online record on Steam. The Store has been breaking a new milestone in the number of simultaneous users every January for at least the last four years. However, due to the pandemic, the online growth rate has increased.

The chart of the most “desired” games on Steam

After 12 months, the leader in the number of vishlists changed on Steam. Throughout 2021, it was Dying Light 2: Stay Human, which is scheduled for release on February 4. But the other day the title passed to Elden Ring, which is due to be released on February 22.

Among other games in the top ten most “desirable” are The Day Before (it is published by the Russian MYTONA) and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl from the Ukrainian GSC Game World. Titles took the sixth and eighth places, respectively.

The number of vishlist games in the list is not disclosed.

Steam Bestseller Chart of the Week

At the top of the weekly ranking of the best—selling games for three weeks in a row is the same project – a tactical shooter Ready or Not.

It Takes Two took the second place. She will do it thanks to a 50% discount. It should be noted that the day before yesterday, the cooperative hit of Josef Fares also updated its peak online. On Saturday, January 8, 25,826 Steam users played it at the same time. Yesterday, the maximum online It Takes Two was only slightly lower — 25,449 people.

The third place in the chart went to Monster Hunter Rise, which is scheduled for release on January 12. Another pre-order, Elden Ring, is in seventh place.

Project Zomboid continued to show strong sales and moved from fifth to fourth place in a week. Rust also strengthened its position in the chart, rising from tenth to eighth place.

But Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach dropped from third to sixth place. Along with it, the positions of two more games weakened in the rating. Forza Horizon 5 went from the eighth line to the ninth, and Sea of Thieves — from the sixth line to the tenth.
