Sales of Dyson Sphere Program — the Chinese version of Factorio — exceeded 1.7 million copies on Steam

Dyson Sphere Program is another hit created by Chinese developers. For eight months in early access on Steam, the number of copies of the title sold exceeded 1.7 million. This made it one of the best-selling Chinese indie games this year.Dyson Sphere Program was released in early access on January 21.

In it, players need to build an intergalactic factory, creating food chains, absorbing the energy of stars and collecting resources. At the same time, the star cluster that the user enters is generated procedurally.

As far as can be understood from the comments and reviews, the game can be called a more complex three-dimensional version of Factorio. Although many also immediately compare it with another construction hit — Satisfactory.

The game was developed by the Chinese team Youthcat Studio, which consists of five people. The team funded the development on Kickstarter, raising a total of ¥1.43 million ($ 222 thousand). The publisher of the Dyson Sphere Program was Gamera Game, a company specializing in indie titles.

The developers themselves reported high sales on Steam. At the same time, they shared their plans for the development of the project:

  • In the second half of 2022, a combat system will appear in the Dyson Sphere Program. As a result, players will have to not only build, but also defend their base from hordes of enemies;the main elements of the new mechanics will be “defense, exploration, expansion and destruction” (defense, exploration, expansion, and extermination).
  • This is a kind of twist on the classic formula of 4X strategies, only with the replacement of “exploitation” with “protection”.This year, several indie games from Chinese developers have been released on Steam at once, which have shown themselves well in sales.

One of the most notable projects along with the Dyson Sphere Program was the RPG Tale of Immortal, the peak online of which in February exceeded 170 thousand players.
