Valve is working on a new cloud platform — Steam Cloud Play

Valve is really preparing a new cloud service. It is called Cloud Play and allows you to play Steam games through third-party cloud services.

In December 2019, there was a rumor that Valve was developing a similar platform. It was confirmed by a new document on the Steamworks website. Steam Cloud Play has not yet been officially announced. As soon as this happens, it will be released for an open beta test, but there are no exact dates yet.

As Valve notes, players will not be charged for launching games in the cloud through third-party services. Therefore, developers will not be able to additionally monetize their games through Steam Cloud Play.

By the way, GeForce Now became the first Steam Cloud Play partner service. Recall that the platform allows you to synchronize accounts and run titles from a third-party library on any PC and Android devices. Just yesterday she changed the terms of cooperation with publishers and developers: now they have to offer their own games for her.

We add that developers can already register their titles for Steam Cloud Play. Registration instructions can be found at this link. It is highly desirable that games support cloud saves.

“Now we are adding a strictly limited number of games to the service, as we continue to add new features and improve the capabilities of servers,” Valve writes.
