The peak online on Steam reached a record 18.8 million users

The number of simultaneous Steam users exceeded 18.8 million. Thus, the store broke the record of two years ago.

The previous record was 18.5 million users. This is reported by Eurogamer with reference to the Steam Database. Earlier, NDP Group analyst Mat Piscatella claimed that the popularity of Steam along with other PC platforms is falling. Contrary to this, Valve‘s store is increasing online.

But this does not mean that almost 19 million users play games on Steam at the same time. The user can simply be online. The total peak online gaming at the time of the new record was 5.8 million. Moreover, less than 3 million accounted for the top titles: CS: GO, Dota 2, PUBG, GTA V and Monster Hunter: World.

The significant difference between the peak online on Steam and the peak online in games Steam Database explains the large number of registered bots. Also note that for two years the total online gaming has fallen. In January 2018, it reached 7 million users.

Nevertheless, we can talk about an increase in the indicator of the site itself. Perhaps this is a consequence of the measures taken by Steam in 2019. The store has introduced various innovations, updated its design and expanded its tools in competition with the Epic Games Store. Recall that it is this competition that Piscatella associates with a decrease in gamers’ spending on PC games.
