Publishing the game on Steam will cost $100

In the Steam Direct system, which will replace Steam Greenlight, the developer will have to pay a fee of $100 for each project.

This was announced today, June 2, by Valve in its blog on Steam.

In the near future, to publish games, the developer will need to:

  • issue “certain electronic documents”;
  • go through the company verification procedure;
  • provide tax information;
  • pay $100 for the project that is planned to be withdrawn.

In February, Valve reported that it was thinking about the amount of the contribution. The company fluctuated in the range between $100 and $5000. In the end, she chose the lowest possible price. The choice is motivated by the fact that the company could not justify a larger amount for itself. Initially, in internal discussions, Valve was inclined to put a price tag of $500.
