Tencent plans global launch of Steam competitor (?)

It was reported that the owner of Riot Games and Supercell announced the worldwide release of the digital game distribution service WeGame.

The platform is a new version of the Tencent Games Platform service (hereinafter referred to as TGP), which previously worked exclusively in China.

The only source of this information is Daniel Ahmad, a young analyst at Niko Partners, a research company specializing in the Asian gaming market.

Daniel also shared slides about the platform in Chinese and noted that the number of registered TGP users is already 200 million. Steam has much fewer of them – 125 million.

In 2017, Tencent plans to launch 100 Western titles on the new site.

By the way, Western projects have already been released on TGP. According to Daniel, Dont’t Starve has sold 1 million copies on it.

According to the data of the production group Another Indie, only 7 games were released on TGP in 2017. 5 of them are fritupley. The main reason for such a small number of releases is the long and expensive perlustration of projects by Chinese censorship.

The official announcement of the world version of TGP may take place on April 20.
